Heroes star Hayden Panettiere cried Saturday night as the Humane Society gave her an activism award for protesting the annual dolphin slaughter in Southwestern Japan last year. Hayden received the Gretchen Wyler Award, given annually at the Genesis Awards to a celebrity who brings attention to animal causes. Wyler, who founded the awards and was also an actress, died last May from breast cancer, two months after presenting the first award to Paul McCartney. Hayden’s parents and her boyfriend – and Heroes costar – Milo Ventimiglia were in the audience and watched a video of the actress and others paddling out on surfboards and confronting fishermen, who trap and kill dolphins to protect their fish supply. They then gave a standing ovation as Hayden took the stage. "As an actress, you always dream of getting awards like the Golden Globe award, but I never expected to get an award that is this special and important to me as this," Hayden said through tears. "There are people who dedicate their entire lives to preserving the environment and defending animals, they are so much more deserving of something like this." After the brief speech, she went straight from the stage to the bathroom for several minutes to regain her composure, and then was escorted back to her seat by Ventimiglia. Hayden skipped the afterparty, having to return in the morning to shooting the movie I Love You, Beth Cooper. Panettiere stars in the Chris Columbus comedy, being shot in Vancouver. "She’s an inspiring example to her generation, using her compassion, courage and celebrity to help animals in a very effective way,” said Beverly Kaskey, Senior Director of the Humane Society’s Hollywood Office. This guy is winning over the fam. We reported in January that Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia got the stamp of approval from Hayden Panettiere’s mother, Leslie Panettiere. Now he has the OK from her 13-year-old brother, Jansen Panettiere. “Milo is cool, he’s a pretty chill guy,” Jansen Panettiere told Us Weekly at the Alvin and the Chipmunks DVD release party in L.A. Thursday. Hayden Panettiere and young Jansen Panettiere are both actors! As you surely know, Hayden Panettiere, 18, and Milo Ventimiglia, 30, have been dating since last year, following a long string of denials that they were dating. Ventimiglia had a crush on his Heroes co-star since she back when she was dating reality star and VJ Stephen Colletti. That ended last summer sometime. Milo confessed it “the minute she broke up with Stephen,” a source said. A source close to the actor shrugged off their 12-year-age gap between the two hotties, saying, “[Hayden] is really like a 30-year-old. [SOURCE]

You know how the Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles star reportedly told Life & Style magazine a couple weeks back that he thought the relationship between his former Heroes costar Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia was "gross" because of the age difference? (If not, you can read about it here.) Well, we just so happened to witness the aftermath at a recent Fox party, where Mr. Dekker came face to face with a Life & Style reporter and erupted into: "Wait a minute! Aren't you guys the ones who reported that comment about Hayden?!...I'm gonna kill that guy! I said it was gross, but then I said I was just kidding!" Dekker was actually pretty sweet and playful about it, telling the L&S reporter (who did not pen the initial story), "I know it's not your fault." Still, he was mighty insistent on setting the record straight. "On the Internet, it says I'm disgusted by [Hayden and Milo's relationship]," Dekker said. "I would have to actually care to be disgusted by it. I'm not disgusted. And, you know, if the relationship is making them happy, then of course it's not gross. I'm just saying that I could never date someone with that big of an age [difference]. I just don't see myself having anything in common with a person whose age is that [far from mine], but that's just me." [SOURCE]

Hayden was photographed boarding a plane at LAX airport in LA. She's also on the covers of "Seventeen" and "Cosmo" magazine. Here's a snippet of Cosmo's interview: "I don't have a model's body. But I'm not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they're fat. I'm okay with what I have. I can rock this body, you know?" You can read a few more quotes and view both magazine covers herex10 03-04 Flying Out

For the last 22 years, the Humane Society of the United States has held the Genesis Awards to honor members of the entertainment industry who showcase animal issues. Each year, the coveted Wyler Award is given to one celebrity who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make news on behalf of animals. The HSUS has announced that this year the Wyler award will be given to Hayden Panettiere for drawing worldwide attention to the cruelty of Japan’s whale and dolphin slaughter. Beverly Kaskey, Senior Director of The Hollywood Office of The HSUS said, “We feel Hayden is a very worthy successor to Sir Paul McCartney, last year’s Wyler Award recipient. She’s an inspiring example to her generation, using her compassion, courage and celebrity to help animals in a very effective way.” The Genesis Awards will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. 'Heroes' star Hayden Panettiere graces the March cover of Seventeen magazine. In the issue she talks about her failed relationship with 'Laguna Beach' alum Stephen Colletti, her campaign to save the whales and why she's outspoken: Hayden on her split from Stephen:“I just knew I wanted to breathe. I wanted to be single at the time. It just hit me like a ton of bricks: This is the time I need to be with myself. It takes such a secure person to be with someone like me—it takes so much confidence; it takes so much trust.” Hayden on a warrant that was out for her arrest in Japan after she interfered in a dolphin hunt last year:“There’s very little that scares me,. I’ve always been a physical person. And I feel like a lot of time in this industry, a lot of people loan their face to a cause, which is great, but it doesn’t do as much as getting out there and actually physically doing something.” Hayden on being outspoken:“I don’t need to prove myself to anyone. I’m not that kind of person. I know myself much better now than I did [before]. And my opinions of things and my morals – I am not as easily swayed as I used to be. And when you learn to accept yourself, the more you learn to be okay with yourself and know yourself, the easier it is to love somebody and allow them to love you.” [SOURCE]

Newcomer Paul Rust will star in the Fox Atomic teen comedy "I Love You, Beth Cooper." Hayden Panettiere has already boarded the film as the eponymous character. Jack Carpenter, Lauren Storm and Lauren London have also joined the project, which follows the adventures of a geeky high school valedictorian (Rust) who decides he has nothing to lose by making a play for the popular cheerleader (Panettiere) and declares his love for her during his graduation speech. Chris Columbus will direct the film, which he is also producing through his 1492 Pictures banner. Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe also produce. Project is based on a novel by former "Simpsons" scribe Larry Doyle, who penned the screenplay. Shooting is scheduled to start next month in Vancouver. Rust's credits include New Line's upcoming comedy "Semi-Pro." [SOURCE]

Cory Edwards, director of Hoodwinked! and co-writer of Hoodwinked 2: Hood vs. Evil, announced on his Blog that "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere has joined the voice cast of the animated sequel, replacing Anne Hathaway as the voice of "Red." Edwards, who again will voice Twitchy, revealed most of the voice cast in his post:
Many of the original cast have returned. Glenn Close is still Granny, and Patrick Warburton remains The Wolf (very, very happy about that). Nicky Flippers will once again be performed by David Ogden Stiers. Andy Dick has voiced Boingo again (that's right, Boingo is still around, as unstable as ever... but not the greatest threat this time).
And yes, yes, yes, for everyone who keeps asking, THE GOAT IS BACK. Japeth the singing goat will appear again, voiced by my good buddy Benjy Gaither.
There are some brand new and very cool additions to this sequel. This time around, Red will not be voiced by Anne Hathaway, but by Hayden Panettiere, the "super cheerleader" from Heroes. This seems very fitting, since Red becomes a bit more of a "caped crusader" in this film. The Woodsman is now being voiced by comedy legend Martin Short. Martin Short! He was an "Amigo" for Pete's sake. Crazy. Those are the new folks stepping into old roles.
As for new characters, without giving any plot away, I will tell you that Joan Cusack is a new villainous witch, Brad Garrett is The Giant from the notorious beanstalk, and Wayne Newton plays "Jimmy Ten Strings," his singing harp. That's right. Wayne Newton. As a harp. He's totally into it. David Alan Grier plays a troll, which should be really funny... I heard he was off the charts with the ad-libs. And finally, all you SNL fans will be psyched to know that Amy Poehler and Bill Hader will be voicing Hansel & Gretel. How's that for a cast?
The original Hoodwinked! grossed $51 million domestically and $109 million worldwide.

Hayden Panettiere must have absorbed someone's musical powers, because the "Heroes" star is putting out a debut album later this year on Hollywood Records. Panettiere, who spent some of her downtime during the writers' strike shooting a Candies campaign for spring 2008 at New York's Serendipity 3, also resumed recording on her debut, which she started working on when she was 15 years old. "I've grown up a lot since I started," she said. Panettiere is also expanding her acting résumé, playing a younger version of Emily Watson's character in the upcoming film "Fireflies in the Garden," which co-stars Julia Roberts and Ryan Reynolds. "My mom always says you don't know you've done a film until you're sitting in the movie theater watching it, so I get a little nervous saying anything!" Handsome actor Milo Ventimiglia is featured in the March 2008 issue of GQ and talks a bit about what we all want to hear about. No, not his shirtless scenes in Heroes (although we do like those). We’re talking about his relationship with 18-year-old co-star, former crush, and current girlfriend, Hayden Panettiere. Some excerpts from the interview … HALO. That’s what the blogs are calling you and Hayden. Does the nickname bug you? You know what, man - it makes me smile. If you two are dating, why not just say so? I read you bought the girl a ring from Tiffany’s!When you’re in the public eye, you try to keep whatever you can private. People can speculate and talk. But what can you do - stop living your life? Hayden was GQ’s Obsession of the Year. Did you like those photos?Yes, I did. They were very nice. [SOURCE]
